Washington, D.C., Chosen for 2015 ANOC Assembly
Posted On: June 15, 2013 By :The Association of National Olympic Committees will host its 2015 general assembly in Washington, D.C., the first time the meeting has been held in the United States since 1994.
ANOC represents more than 200 national Olympic committees. The decision to host the event in the United States came after a pitch in Lausanne, Switzerland, from United States Olympic Committee Chairman Larry Probst.
“It’s another demonstration of our commitment to engage and support the Olympic movement,” Probst said. Specific dates for the meeting have not yet been determined.
The last ANOC meeting in 1994 was held in Atlanta, two years before the 1996 Olympic Summer Games. The United States is exploring a bid for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games. The USOC is currently in discussion with about 10 cities interested in bidding. The organization hopes to narrow that list to three potential host sites by the end of 2013.
