U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals

Sunny skies, temperatures in the 70s and low humidity: Perfect weather for rowing, right? It would have been, except for the high winds that kicked up whitecaps and threatened to swamp boats at the U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals.
Fortunately, U.S. Rowing had a plan for that. With a tropical storm off the coast producing gusts of more than 20 mph, organizers called off the Wednesday and Thursday practice rounds. And with more wind predicted for Sunday, they decided even before the weekend competition started to cancel the final day of the regatta as well. “We truncated three days of racing into two,” said Glenn Merry, CEO of U.S. Rowing.
