U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation Announces New Fundraising Campaign
Initiative hopes to raise $500 million ahead of the LA28 Games
Posted On: July 15, 2024 By :The United States Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, has announced its largest fundraising campaign ever with a goal to raise $500 million by the time the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games begin in Los Angeles.
The foundation promoted its “One for All: The Campaign for Team USA” campaign on Monday. The campaign has already brought in around $200 million of its $500 million target, reported The Associated Press, with a $25 million contribution, the largest in foundation history, made by Mark and Mary Stevens, some of the first supporters of the organization’s philanthropic efforts.
‘”As we embark on this ambitious journey, we are committed to transforming the athlete experience by prioritizing their health, performance, and career development,” said Christine Walshe, president of the USOPF. “Our goal is to raise the bar for Team USA, ensuring our athletes have the resources and support they need to excel during every step of their journey on their way to the world stage.”
Funds raised are designated for programs that help athletes both during and after their careers in three areas: health and wellness, sport performance innovation and athlete career and earnings. Since its inception in 2013, the USOPF has raised over $370 million for Team USA athletes and programs.
“Our collaboration with the USOPF through the One for All campaign is pivotal in ensuring Team USA athletes have the best possible support as we head towards the LA28 Games,” said Janet Evans, LA28 chief athlete officer. “By investing in their health, performance, and career opportunities, we are building a legacy that will empower our athletes to achieve unparalleled success and inspire future generations.”
The foundation’s efforts have led to an expanded mental health program that includes hundreds of providers offering both in-person and virtual counseling. Additionally, 40 national sport organizations have benefited from donor-funded technology and data projects. The foundation has also supported athletes with tuition assistance, enabling them to pursue higher education.
“It means the absolute world to me that fans across our nation financially support athletes like me and Team USA,” said Paralympian Oksana Masters, who regularly works with a sports psychology team and has received specialty medical care ahead of PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020.. “This would not be at all possible without them. When we line up on the start line, I know that it is our fans who are making it possible for us to be there chasing our dreams.”
