WeStreet Ice Center will host event in April
Posted On: December 22, 2023 By :The World Axe and Knife Throwing Championships will be hosted at the new WeStreet Ice Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, starting April 18.
The event is the seventh time the World Axe Throwing Championship has been organized and the third time for the World Knife Throwing Championship. The Ice Center is a multi-purpose facility with a restaurant, sports bar and stadium seating and mezzanines overlooking the tournament space.
“This event will not only be a fantastic way to introduce folks to the brand new WeStreet Ice Center, but a unique opportunity for Tulsa to be in front of global audiences via the ESPN broadcast,” said Joel Koester, director of sales for the Tulsa Sports Commission. “We look forward to welcoming international competitors for this action-packed event this spring in partnership with WeStreet Ice Center and Got Wood Axe Throwing.”
The event will bring together the world’s top axe and knife throwing athletes for four days of competition while vying for a total cash prize of over $60,000. The championships consist of four unique throwing disciplines and are expected to attract over 380 throwers from 38 states, Canada, Great Britain and New Zealand.
The World Axe Throwing League and World Knife Throwing League are the world’s largest governing bodies of their respective industries. The leagues are comprised of over 350 companies representing venues on nearly every continent and membership of over 20,000 active players.
“In the past 7 years, I’ve watched the championship grow from a streamed event with just a handful of participants to over 350 throwers with an ESPN broadcast,” said Sarah Sed, incoming World Axe Throwing League Commissioner. “This tremendous growth is all because of our passionate community of throwers, affiliates, and the WATL support staff.”
