John Wiley & Sons has announced the release in print and as an e-book of the fully updated, third edition of “The Sports Event Management & Marketing Playbook,” authored by former NHL and NFL executive Frank Supovitz and former Madison Square Garden and Staples Center general manager Robert Goldwater.

The Playbook has been among the best-selling titles in the publisher’s Event Management Series since 2004. The third edition is available via Wiley.com and on Amazon.com at a list price of $88.95 in hardcover and $50.95 as a Kindle book.

“This book marks over 20 years of an exceptional partnership with Wiley, consistently offering invaluable insights into the evolving world of sports event management and marketing,” said Dr. Shawn Seungwon Lee, series editor of The Wiley Event Management Series. “The authors’ expertise and dedication to this field have made a lasting impact, and this latest edition is a testament to the continuous growth and excellence of both the authors and the series.”

The Playbook is a guide on how to successfully plan and deliver live sports events highlighting best practices, tools and trends that have emerged in every facet of the industry.  Contemporary, real-life illustrative case studies have been a popular feature among readers of the book.

Supovitz has organized hundreds of major live and televised sports and entertainment events, including more than two decades combined as a senior executive for the NFL and NHL. He is an adjunct professor at Adelphi University and the author of “What to Do When Things Go Wrong,” published by McGraw-Hill in 2019. He is the founder of Fast Traffic Events & Entertainment, an event consulting, management and production firm and served several years as The Event Doctor columnist in SportsTravel.

Goldwater, president of The Goldwater Group consulting firm, served 24 years at Madison Square Garden in New York City, is chairman of the Washington (DC) Sports Hall of Fame, and the interim faculty director for Georgetown University’s Sports Industry Management program.
