Laurence Bishop has been appointed director of sport tourism for RTO4, a recently formed regional sport tourism office servicing the Ontario, Canada, cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. In his role, Bishop will head up new initiatives to increase sports tourism and increase overnight stays in the area.
“The formation of the regional sport tourism office is the culmination of three years of work with stakeholders from across the region,” said David Peacock, CEO of RTO4 Inc., “working together, these four cities have a sport infrastructure in terms of facilities, people and progressive government that is only matched in the province by Ottawa and Toronto. Securing the services of someone with the international reputation of Mr. Bishop is both a significant achievement and a harbinger of just how important this region is about to become in the Ontario Sport Tourism sector.”
Bishop brings 20 years of sports industry experience to the position, having held various positions with organizations including the Ontario Volleyball Association and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment before launching his own private sport marketing, consulting and event production company, St. Lawrence Sport Productions.
RTO4 is an initiative started by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport to serve as an industry-led non-profit dedicated to growing the tourism economy in the region. For more information, visit RTO4.ca.
