The CORE4 Athletic Complex in Atlanta and The Sports Facilities Companies have announced Shaka Johnson as the facility’s general manager.
Johnson has more than 18 years of experience in the sports industry, including roles with the University of Georgia, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.
“I’m excited to be part of the CORE4 Athletic Complex and to help catapult an already well- established brand in the Atlanta area,” said Johnson. “This is an extraordinary facility and I look forward to inspiring and expanding the game of basketball in the community.”
Johnson has received accolades for her leadership in parks and recreation, with five Georgia Recreation and Park district awards, the 2022 GRPA Member Spotlight award and an appointment to the GRPA Steering Committee.
“I am thrilled to welcome Shaka Johnson as the new general manager of CORE4 Athletic Complex,” said Paul Millsap, CORE4 owner and former NBA player. “Shaka’s impressive track record in sports management and her dedication to community development align perfectly with our vision. Her leadership is exactly what we need to propel our complex to new levels of success and community impact.”
Johnson, who was a track and field star at Georgia, still holds two of the top 10 hurdle times at the school after 17 years. With 20 years of coaching experience, she has led 40-plus athletes to the Junior Olympics and assisted more than 30 other athletes in obtaining scholarships. She has also worked with NFL athletes to improve their 40-yard times.
“We are so happy to welcome Shaka Johnson to our team at CORE4 Athletic Complex,” said SFC Vice President Patrick O’Brien. “Her extensive background in sports management and her commitment to operational excellence will bring extensive value to our organization and the stakeholders that we have the privilege to serve.”
