The National Football League has awarded Super Bowl L in 2016 to the San Francisco Bay Area and Super Bowl LI in 2017 to Houston. The 2016 game will mark the 50th Super Bowl, and the first in the Bay Area since the 1985 contest at Stanford Stadium.
South Florida bid for both events but finished out of the running. Its bid was compromised by a recent vote in the Florida Legislature denying public money toward proposed improvements to Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.
Super Bowl L will be played at the San Francisco 49ers‘ new stadium under construction in Santa Clara, California. The building is scheduled to be open for the 2014 season. Super Bowl LI will be played at Reliant Stadium, home to the Houston Texans. The stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004.
The 2014 Super Bowl will be staged at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, home to the New York Jets and Giants. The 2015 game will be played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home to the Arizona Cardinals.
