“Partnering with The 288 Group was a meaningful and natural step for us,” said Chris Friant, director of tournaments for Richmond United. “Their Richmond roots align with our own and the trust they’ve earned with local hotel operators and property managers will be invaluable as we seek to further grow our events in the years ahead.”

Beginning this fall, The 288 Group will serve as the official travel partner for Richmond United Tournament Series, offering hotel contracting and guest support services. The 288 Group manages travel logistics for more than 150 major events annually including the Atlantic 10 Championships, Richmond Marathon and Richmond Volleyball Club tournaments.

“This is a big moment for our team, and one we’re fully prepared for,” said Tina Bland, director of travel at 288 Travel. “Our deep experience supporting large-scale events throughout the Richmond region makes us uniquely equipped to deliver for Richmond United’s families and teams.”

The Richmond United Tournament Series is highlighted by the annual Jefferson Cup, which includes over 1,900 teams and 30,000 athletes. Backed by Richmond Region Tourism and surrounding jurisdictions, including Henrico, Chesterfield, and Goochland Counties and the City of Richmond, the Jefferson Cup generates nearly $50 million in annual economic impact. The 288 Group’s customer service team will assist with hotel bookings and provide recommendations on local restaurants, directions to venues and family activities.

“The Jefferson Cup is more than just a soccer tournament — it’s a powerful economic engine for our region and showcases our community as a premier sports and travel destination,” said Katherine O’Donnell, president and chief executive officer of Richmond Region Tourism. “We’re excited to see Richmond United continue to innovate and invest in the experience for all who visit.”
