Pepsi Center Offers Aluminium Cups for Fans
Home of Nuggets and Avalanche promoting them as 'infinitely recyclable'
Posted On: October 18, 2019 By :The Pepsi Center, home of the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the NLL’s Colorado Mammoth, will be offering an alternative to paper and plastic cups that have traditionally been used for concession drinks at sporting events.
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has agreed to a deal with Ball Corporation leading to “infinitely recyclable” aluminium cup for fans. Pepsi Center will be the first major professional sports arena in the United States to introduce the cups at full scale, with the launch scheduled for the Nuggets’ 2019–2020 home season opener against the Phoenix Suns on October 25. Earlier this year, the Colorado-based company also debuted the cups at University of Colorado football games.
The cups will be used at all Pepsi Center events for draft soda and beer products.
“KSE and the Pepsi Center have prioritized sustainability efforts in recent years, which have brought improvements around limiting energy use and consumption, and enhancing our recycling opportunities is a natural continuation of these efforts,” said Jim Martin, KSE president and chief executive. “Introducing the aluminium cup option provides a more sustainable gameday and event experience for our fans and we are thrilled to be the first professional sports arena to lead this change.”
Ball supplies sustainable aluminium packaging for beverage, personal care and household products. The agreement with the Pepsi Center is part of a pilot program that will produce a limited supply of aluminum cups through 2020 to test customer demand.
