Paris je t’aime, the city’s tourism bureau, released its preliminary report on the Paralympic Summer Games impact saying North America was the leading international market during the competition.
The report says North America had 105,000 tourists visit Paris during the Paralympic Games, more than all of Europe with 87,000. The total number of international air arrivals during the Paralympics was 281,000 and the month of September looks set to be broadly similar to 2023, with 600,000 arrivals forecast to date, +1.1% compared with 2023.
The report said Parisian visitor numbers were up compared to 2023 in all competition zones, most notably in Saint-Denis with a 78.1% increase as the home for Stade de France and the Aquatics Centre. The area around La Défense Arena was up 22.7% and Porte de Versailles (Arena Paris Sud) went up 14.8%, followed by the 7th arrondissements (Arena Champ de Mars, Eiffel Tower Stadium and Esplanade des Invalides) which was up 7.3 %.
Some competition areas benefited from international tourists, such as Saint-Denis (+ 138.2% vs 2023) and Nanterre (La Défense Arena, + 51.9%). The arrondissements most visited by foreign tourists were the 15th, 8th and 9th.
Hotel occupancy rates was 75% for the first week of the Paralympic Games and expected to increase to 80% in the second week with a average stay of 2.7 nights. The top three overnight stays in Greater Paris from French out-of-town visitors was the 15th, 12th and 18th.
