While the construction of new sports venues never stops, a theme that’s emerging with these multi-million-dollar facilities is being able to use them for much more than one specific sport or event. From the $1 billion palace Everton Football Club is building for its Premier League team to local pickleball centers, there’s a variety in the sizes of new venues to watch out for in 2025.
As private investor funds continue to roll in, numerous facilities at all levels are ready to host sporting events and more. Here’s a look at some of the new sports complexes that will be opening around the world over the next year.
Burlington Pickleball Complex
Burlington, North Carolina
OPENING: Spring 2025
The City Park complex at Fairchild Park, adjacent to the Burlington Tennis Center, will feature 17 pickleball courts, including one championship court. The facility will also offer shade structures and a restroom. At Fairchild Park, two tennis courts are being upgraded to six pickleball courts, with added seating and shade. In addition to the local community using the courts for recreation, the venue will also host tournaments, bringing visitors and economic impact into the area.
Cyclone Ballparks
Pecos, Texas
Renovation Completion: Early 2025
Cyclone Ballparks has added three new multiuse fields to the existing five baseball diamonds. In addition to baseball and softball, the facility will be able to host flag football, soccer and other youth and amateur tournaments, competitions and events from all over West Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. The venue now features two new food and beverage buildings with views of the competition fields, batting cages, a press box and shade structures. With expanded facilities, the renovations include more parking for guests. A family-friendly state-of-the-art playground and splash pad are also being constructed.
David Booth Memorial Stadium
Lawrence, Kansas
RENOVATED: Fall 2025
The University of Kansas is making upgrades to Memorial Stadium, as well as renovating and expanding the Anderson Family Football Complex and building several new multipurpose facilities. Together, the projects will make up KU’s Gateway District. The $450 million stadium renovation includes a seating bowl design with improved sightlines to bring fans closer to the field; expanded concessions, restrooms and accessible seating locations; improved concourse circulation and new premium amenities such as club seats and suites. The team will play its first game in the revamped stadium on August 23 against Fresno State.
Daybreak Field at America First Square
South Jordan, Utah
OPENING: April 2025
The new home for the Salt Lake Bees — a Minor League Baseball team that plays in the Pacific Coast League and is the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels — will have a seating capacity for approximately 6,500 fans. The stadium will feature premium spaces that include field-level VIP suites at home plate and views of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Daybreak Field will be located in an entertainment district of a new community hub, offering proximity to shops, restaurants and concerts. The venue will also be available to rent for family gatherings and corporate events of all sizes.
Emerald Acres
Mattoon, Illinois
OPENED: January 2025
The Emerald Acres Sports Connection development is an $80 million indoor and outdoor sports facility on 150 acres. It is projected to draw 580,000 visitors and generate an estimated $23.8 million in direct spending and 59,000 hotel room nights each year. It features space for eight basketball or 16 volleyball courts, seven multipurpose fields, a family entertainment center, and up to 20 diamond fields and 12 full-size soccer fields. The facility will have three “championship” fields — one each for soccer, baseball and softball.
Everton Stadium
Liverpool, England
OPENING: 2025
Everton started work on its new 52,888-capacity home in August 2021 and the Premier League football club is due to move into the venue ahead of the 2025–2026 season. Everton is currently playing its final campaign at Goodison Park, its home since 1892. Located on the Bramley-Moore Dock at the River Mersey waterfront in Liverpool, the venue will also host a selection of Women’s Super League games and be among the 10 host venues for Euro 2028. Construction costs for the stadium, which will have a steel and glass design, have reportedly reached close to $1 billion.
Fifth Third Park
Spartanburg, South Carolina
OPENING: April 2025
Fifth Third Park is located in downtown Spartanburg and will be the home to the Hub City Spartanburgers, an Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The venue will play host to 66 baseball games per season and will also be utilized for other events including concerts, festivals, comedy shows, amateur sports, community gatherings and private functions. The facility will be able to welcome over 5,000 fans on game days and over 10,000 guests when operating concerts and other events.
Kai Tak Sports Park
Hong Kong
OPENING: Spring 2025
After nearly a decade and $4 billion spent, the Kai Tak Sports Park will open in 2025 and is one of the sports venues that will deliver events for the 15th National Games of China. Headlined by a 50,000-seat main stadium with a retractable roof and flexible field surface, the ASM Global-managed complex will also feature the 5,000-capacity Youth Sports Ground and 10,000-capacity Kai Tak Arena for indoor sports including basketball, tennis and gymnastics. Throughout the complex will also be a bowling center with 40 lanes suitable for hosting international tournaments and a climbing wall.
Kentucky Sports Factory
Madisonville, Kentucky
OPENING: March 2025
The 90,000 square foot facility includes 22 pickleball courts, 12 volleyball courts, six basketball courts and a 60-yard turf field. In addition to hosting local, regional and national events across numerous sports, the venue will be available to rent for parties and events, as well as the ability to buy a day pass or rent a specific court. The 60,000 square feet of hardwood space is the most of any facility in Kentucky.
Regional Pickleball Complex at Lane Community College
Eugene, Oregon
OPENING: Fall 2025
The facility, which is being constructed by the Emerald Valley Pickleball Foundation, will feature 24 lighted courts — 10 of them covered — and will be open to the public. It will be one of the largest dedicated pickleball facilities in the Pacific Northwest. In 2022, Lane County voters approved a tax levy that will fund $500,000 of the $5 million cost. The county estimates that a large regional tournament drawing 600 overnight attendees and 1,500 day attendees would generate an estimated $1.5 million for the area.
Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Renovation Completion: May 2025
Ripken Baseball has announced plans to upgrade its Myrtle Beach facility, including constructing a permanent food and beverage pavilion called The Bullpen, modernizing the retail store and installing new field turf. The Bullpen will be a 24- by 85-foot area featuring shaded seating, yard games and new food and beverage options located next to the facility’s batting cages. One of Myrtle Beach’s signature fields, Ebbets Field, will be outfitted with new turf to create a high-performance playing surface. The on-site retail store will have a refreshed layout and an expanded selection of merchandise.
Timmons Arena
Greenville, South Carolina
Renovation Completion: Fall 2025
In the school’s largest ever donor-funded project, Furman University is executing a $40 million renovation for the venue that is home to its basketball programs. The 2,750-seat arena will have a reimagined entrance and lobby and modernized audio and video equipment. The seating options will be upgraded with more premium seating, including eight suites, a pair of larger party suites, a hospitality deck, courtside seating and a VIP lounge. Concessions will also be upgraded, including new grab-and-go markets. More than 200 donors contributed the $40 million needed for the project, including a $10 million gift from philanthropist and businessman Ravenel B. Curry III.
Woodman’s Center
Janesville, Wisconsin
OPENING: Fall 2025
The $47 million project includes a year-round ice arena with a capacity of 1,500 that will provide a hub for hockey, figure skating and other on-ice sports, alongside community events. Woodman’s Center will also feature a 25,800 square-foot flexible space, designed to transition from conference setups to hardcourt sports. The multipurpose arena provides nearly 26,000 square feet of space and will serve as an ice rink for part of the year, converting into dry courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, futsal and expanded conference space when needed.
WYO Sports Ranch
Casper, Wyoming
OPENED: January 2025
The 131,000 square foot Wyo Sports Ranch is an indoor sports facility that features six basketball courts that can be converted to 12 volleyball courts and an indoor multipurpose turf field area that can also be converted to four additional basketball courts or eight volleyball courts. It has four short-side soccer fields that each measure 90 x 60 feet. The $52 million venue also includes a strength and conditioning fitness center that is geared toward sports medicine and a full-service kitchen with catering. There are three community/team rooms that can be used for players and referees.
