Ironman has announced the addition of Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta. Co-hosted by the cities of Indian Wells and La Quinta in Southern California, the event will be held December 9.
“We are excited to expand our offering of events in California,” said Beth Atnip, Ironman’s head of operations for North America. “Partnering with Indian Wells and La Quinta allows us to showcase this amazing landscape while also expanding the North American triathlon season later in the year for our athletes.”
Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta will begin with a 1.2-mile swim in La Cahuilla, followed by a 56-mile single-loop bike course, and finish with a two-loop run course that traverses from the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens to the Indian Wells Golf Resort. The inaugural event will offer a professional prize purse of $25,000 as well as 30 slots to the 2019 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
