Michael King Named USA Team Handball CEO
King is tasked with growing the sport across America
Posted On: October 25, 2024 By :USA Team Handball has announced Michael King as its chief executive officer, the organization’s third in the past 20 months.
King takes over for Martin Branick, who held the position since March 2023. Branick has been interim chief executive officer following the departure of Ryan Johnson in February 2023.
“We are excited to lead the US handball community forward with a united front and hold great optimism for what comes next as we look towards the LA 2028 Summer Games and beyond,” said Patrick Jalabert, interim chair of the USA Team Handball Board of Directors.
In his new role, King will focus on enhancing club participation and community engagement, improving domestic infrastructure for the sport and increasing funding opportunities. Within handball, King has served several previous roles, including executive director of US Handball Union, co-chair and men’s national team representative of USATH’s Athletes’ Advisory Council and a member of the USATH judicial committee.
“I am honored to take on this role and excited about the opportunities ahead,” King said. “Together, the work will be to engage our existing community supportively and productively and to inspire a new generation of handball players, fans and partners across the country. I believe we face complex issues, but simple steps. My goal is that USA Team Handball immediately build toward realizing, in concrete ways, the sport’s long discussed and enormous American potential.”
