Martin Dempsey Reelected as USA Basketball Chairperson
USA Basketball also announces 14 other board of directors members
Posted On: October 24, 2024 By :Martin Dempsey has been reelected as USA Basketball chairperson for the 2025–2028 term, a role he has served since 2016.
Dempsey, a retired Army general who was also the 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will lead the 15-member USA Basketball Board of Directors, who will be seated through 2028. The announcement was made following the USA Basketball annual Board of Directors meeting in Colorado Springs.
“It has been a real honor to represent our country with USA Basketball over the last eight years and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve with the Board of Directors through the Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” Dempsey said. “USA Basketball continues to be a global leader in the sport, and we are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our athletes and coaches on and off the court. I’m grateful to everyone who continues to support our mission, including our staff, board members and partners.”
Dempsey retired in 2015 after 41 years of military service. He served as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army and as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (2011–2015). He was the senior officer in the U.S. Armed Forces and the U.S. military advisor to the Secretary of Defense and to President Barack Obama. He was appointed a special adviser to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver in January 2016 and also served as chairman of the Jr. NBA Leadership Council.

- John W. Rogers Jr. – Ariel Investments founder, chairman, co-CEO and CIO
- Shareef Abdur-Rahim – 2000 Olympic gold medalist
- Seimone Augustus – 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medalist
- Harrison Barnes – 2016 Olympic gold medalist
- Sylvia Fowles – 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic gold medalist
