Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, will host the HSBC Sevens 2025 world championship May 3–4, ending a season that kicks off November 30, 2024 in Dubai.
The schedule includes seven global destinations and culminates at what is scheduled to be the home for rugby in the 2028 Olympic Summer Games. The tour includes 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams from around the world.
“Global enthusiasm for rugby sevens is at an all-time high, with over 530,000 fans witnessing the electric action on the pitch at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, including a women’s single session record of 66,000,” said World Rugby Chief Executive Alan Gilpin. “Building on the Olympic effect and continuing the theme of innovation, we are excited to announce Los Angeles as host of the winner-takes-all HSBC SVNS World Championship 2025.”
The top eight men’s and women’s teams will head into the winner-takes-all World Championship in California. The site will also host the promotion and relegation playoff that sees the top four men’s and women’s teams from the Challenger Tour face the bottom four ranked teams in the Sevens tour to determine who is part of the top tour in 2026.
Participating in both the men’s and women’s tour will be the United States, New Zealand, Australia, France, Fiji, Great Britain, Ireland and Spain. In the women’s tour only is Canada, Japan, Brazil and China; in the men’s tour only is Argentina, South Africa, Uruguay and Kenya. France is the defending men’s champion and New Zealand is the defending women’s champion.
