The city of Los Angeles has notified the U.S. Olympic Committee of its intent to bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games should the U.S. decide to pursue the event. The Los Angeles bid would be made in partnership with the private Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, which organized the International Olympic Committee’s Conference on Women and Sport in 2012. The Los Angeles City Council last year passed a resolution in support of a potential bid. In February, the USOC sent a letter to the mayors of 35 cities to gauge their interest in submitting a potential bid for the 2024 Games, which would not be due until 2015. Officials in Chicago, the last U.S. bid city, have said they will not bid again.
