New Media Sports LLC has announced that it will move the National Youth Baseball Championships from Memphis, Tennessee, to Long Island, New York, starting in 2014. The event, which matches the best 12-and-under travel baseball teams in the country, will be held at Baseball Heaven, a turf baseball facility in Yaphank, New York, from August 1–11.
New Media Sports also announced that Dugout Media will manage the event and promote it as part of a long-term agreement. Dugout Media is the publisher of Baseball Youth, a baseball magazine for children. CBS Sports Network will telecast 12 games live during the 2014 event, and mlb.com will simultaneously stream them on its website.
“The NYBC has established itself as the top youth baseball event of the year,” said Frank Zitaglio, general manager at Baseball Heaven. “We are excited about partnering with Dugout Media and NMS to host the NYBC at Baseball Heaven this year.”
In order to select the best teams in the country, New Media Sports, Baseball Youth and several veteran youth baseball coaches will use the bi-weekly Baseball Youth Elite 25 team rankings and the results of elite tournaments around the country to assemble the field.
Eddie Einhorn, vice-chairman of the Chicago White Sox, created the event to give kids that play Major League rules in elite-level tournaments an opportunity to play for a national championship on national television. The first six tournaments were held at Gameday Baseball’s First Tennessee Fields in Memphis.
