Kiawah Island to Host 2031 PGA Championship
Marks the third time The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island hosts event
Posted On: April 18, 2024 By :The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, will host the 2031 PGA Championship while the Ocean Course plus Turtle Point Golf Course will also host the 2029 Girls and Boys Junior PGA Championships.
The 113th PGA Championship, scheduled for May 2031, marks the third time the Wanamaker Trophy will be awarded along South Carolina’s coast with the previous two PGAs at the course well known. Phil Mickelson became the oldest major champion at age 50 in 2021 when he won his sixth major overall and Rory McIlroy set a PGA Championship record with an eight-shot victory in 2012.
“We are ecstatic to bring the Junior PGA Championships and PGA Championship to The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in 2029 and 2031,” said PGA of America President John Lindert. “Past PGA Championships at Kiawah Island have provided no shortage of memorable moments and historic performances, all taking place along a breathtaking coastal setting. The Ocean Course’s challenging layout and rich history make it an ideal destination for our Championships.”
Only eight other courses have hosted the PGA Championships three times or more. The PGA of America also held the 1991 Ryder Cup, 2005 PGA Professional Championship and the 2007 Senior PGA Championship there. The Ocean Course, designed by Pete and Alice Dye, is located on the easternmost end of Kiawah Island. It includes the most seaside holes in the Northern Hemisphere with 10 touching the Atlantic Ocean and the other eight running parallel to those.
