The University of Kentucky will put on a 64-person NBA2K tournament that will be broadcast on the school’s Twitch channel and organized by its gaming partner, Gen.G.
The tournament is open to gamers who are at least 13 years old, have a PS4 and own the NBA2K20 game. The 64 players will be chosen at random from those who register. The Round of 64 will take place April 10 with play continuing through to the final four and championship on April 14.
Kentucky and Gen.G announced partnership earlier in 2020 to help the school build an esports program. The tournament comes at a time when professional sports have gone online as the coronavirus pandemic keeps people in their homes.
“This platform provides an opportunity to continue to build community and connection among the members of the UK family,” said Eli Capilouto, president of the University of Kentucky. “We’re excited to see how the UK Twitch Tournament unfolds as a way to connect our students and create community along with all the fans who comprise the Big Blue Nation.”
