Jim Leahy has been hired to serve as the chief executive officer of USA Luge. A sports business veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Leahy brings a wide range of experience in sponsorship sales and development, executive management, branding, licensing, media sales, public relations and market development.
“I am thrilled and excited to be coming on board at this very special time in U.S. luge history. I will work tirelessly to accomplish the mission of the organization,” said Leahy, who served as the executive director of the New Jersey Devils/Trenton Devils from 2005–2012. “I am humbled and honored to be given such a task.”
Prior to his time with the Devils organization, Leahy served as an executive and/or key fundraiser and for a variety of sports franchises, including the Buffalo Sabres, the New Jersey Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Leahy replaces Claire DelNegro, who had served as interim director after Ron Rossi, who had been executive director for 28 years, announced he was stepping down in March.
“We are excited we could secure someone with the executive talents and solid sports background of Jim Leahy,” said two-time Olympian and USA Luge President John Fee. “He brings enthusiasm and a positive vision to our athletes, fans, volunteers and staff as we build momentum toward the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. We are excited to welcome him to the fastest sport on ice.”
