Esports Demonstration Added to 2025 World Games
International World Games Association and Global Esports Federation sign agreement on collaboration
Posted On: June 19, 2024 By :An esports demonstration will debut at the 2025 World Games in China after the International World Games Association and the Global Esports Federation announced the signing of a strategic framework agreement starting with next year’s event in Chengdu from August 7–17.
The news of the World Games’ insertion of esports into its event comes shortly after the International Olympic Committee announced it will vote on the creation of an “Olympic Esports Games” at the 142nd IOC Session this summer in Paris. The two organizations intend to fully integrate esports into future sports programs of The World Games.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone,” said Paul Foster, chief executive officer of the Global Esports Federation. “By creating limitless opportunities for world-class athletes, we aim to inspire billions of fans through high-performance competition. We are dedicated to creating innovative and immersive entertainment experiences that celebrate both esports and sport.”
The collaboration will include initiatives on digital engagement and a presence within esports. It includes partnerships and projects to enhance audience interaction and participation while supporting UNESCO sustainable development goals by integrating social responsibility and sustainability into the events.
“Our partnership brings immense opportunities, starting with The World Games Chengdu 2025, where we anticipate a vibrant fusion of traditional sports and revolutionary esports as part of the entertainment program,” said Guillaume Felli, IWGA deputy chief executive officer. “This agreement not only enhances the scope and appeal of our event but also underscores our commitment to innovation and inclusivity in sports. We look forward to the remarkable possibilities this collaboration will unlock for future events and the global sporting landscape.”
