Greensboro Selected as 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Base Camp
North Carolina destination will host Palmeiras of Brazil
Posted On: April 25, 2025 By :Greensboro, North Carolina, will be a base camp for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and host SE Palmeiras of São Paulo, Brazil, at UNC Greensboro’s campus facilities.
Greensboro is the only North Carolina city to be named as a training base camp; two of the Group Stage matches and two from the Round of 16 matches will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 13, in 12 venues across 11 cities in the United States.
“Greensboro has a rich history in youth and amateur soccer over many years,” says Richard Beard, president of the Greensboro Sports Foundation. “Hosting a team for the 2025 Club World Cup adds to our stellar resume hosting major soccer events. The international exposure World Cup Soccer brings to Greensboro is unmatched in any sports event held worldwide.”
In addition to training in Greensboro, Palmeiras is launching a community program for the local neighborhood. Beginning on June 6, the city will host a series of free activities at the Smith Soccer Complex which will include interactive games and a friendly tournament, leading up to a youth soccer camp at Proehlific Park from June 23 to 27.
“We have long since owned our Tournament Town title, but this honor puts us at a completely different level,” said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan. “Greensboro is now officially part of the world’s most popular sport. This is not just an economic win – it elevates our status as a premier host for sporting events at levels we’ve never experienced.”
Chattanooga earlier announced it will be the team base for Auckland City Football Club of New Zealand and will train at Baylor School’s soccer complex. Auckland City will be in a group of Germany’s Bayern Munich, Benfica of Portugal and Argentina’s Boca Juniors.
“We’re honored to be part of this historic moment as the FIFA Club World Cup comes to the U.S. for the first time,” said Barry White, chief executive officer and president of the Chattanooga Tourism Co. “Auckland City FC brings a warm, welcoming spirit that feels right at home here. While their focus will be on training and preparation, we hope they also enjoy the hospitality and beauty that define our community. We’re proud to welcome Auckland City FC as part of the Chattanooga family, and we invite everyone to cheer them on throughout the tournament.”
