Good, Bad and Ugly
Like any rabid fan, I tend to take a romantic view of sports—that the most deserving team or player will win, that the playing field will be level and that there will be something in the contest to inspire us. Just before the start of the Olympics, my romantic view of sports is surging. Yet there is always a reminder that sports, like any human endeavor, cannot outrun its own karma. There is a yang to every yin, a push to every pull, a loss to every win. And there is disappointment to match every inspiration. On the eve of the greatest celebration of sports on the planet, this cosmic balance is being demonstrated once more.
