The 2025 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships will take place in Frederick, Maryland, on September 14, 2025, in conjunction with Gran Fondo Maryland.
Cyclists will compete in 15 different age groups, with the youngest being 14–16 years old and the highest being 80 and over. The event, organized by Gran Fondo National Series for the fifth year, is supported by the Maryland Sports Commission.
“A record number of cyclists qualified for and competed at Gran Fondo National Championships in 2024, and we are looking to continue building on that momentum for 2025,” said Reuben Kline, Gran Fondo National Series founder and race director. “The 2024 GFNats was also a qualifier event for riders to race in the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, and the 2025 event will provide the opportunity for riders to compete at the 2026 World Championships.”
The age groups for the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships event will match the USA Cycling age groups used for other National Championship events. Athletes must qualify through performance and/or participation in select qualifying events. Qualification is based on results and participation over a rolling 18-month window at Gran Fondo National Series owned events and select partner-events across the nation.
A USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championship title, complete with a national championship jersey and medal, will be awarded to the winner in each age-group category. Gran Fondo National Championships features a timed segment competition format, which largely eliminates the need for road closures and allows cyclists of varying abilities to regroup, ride together and stop to take in the scenery.
