Five Cities Bid to Host 2022 Olympic Winter Games
Posted On: March 14, 2014 By :Krakow (Poland), Oslo (Norway), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Lviv (Ukraine) and Beijing (China) have all met the International Olympic Committee deadline to submit their application files to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Stockholm (Sweden) had initially submitted an intent to bid but has backed out of the running.
The application files provide the IOC with an overview of each city’s vision and concept for the Games and form the basis for an initial technical analysis of the bid. The files will now be studied by an IOC-appointed working group, which will then submit a report to the IOC Executive Board, which will narrow the list to candidate cities in July.
All five applicant cities for the 2022 Olympic Games participated in an observer program at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia. Those cities that move to the candidate city phase will have until January 2015 to submit their candidature files, which are in-depth blueprints of the cities’ Olympic projects. The host city will be named on July 13, 2015, at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur.
