DistiNCtly Fayetteville is unveiling the Fayetteville/Cumberland County Sports Commission, a new initiative to better attract sporting events to the Cumberland County region in North Carolina.
The new organization will partner with the Cumberland County community to increase support for area sporting events. As part of FCSC, DistiNCtly Fayetteville will develop a sports tourism strategy for the Cumberland County region, to attract, support, and host professional and amateur sporting and recreational events.
“Sports tourism is a fast-growing market, driven by increased interest in viewing and participating in leagues and events,” said Devin Heath, president and chief executive officer of DistiNCtly Fayetteville. “There is an opportunity for our region to become a go-to location for these marquee events at all levels. However, to do this successfully, we must invest in the resources needed to attract and cater to sports organizations. The commission is a huge step forward for Cumberland County, increasing awareness nationally. We are already home to amazing events and organizations, and this effort will allow us to compete more effectively to bring new groups to the area in the future.”
The new commission will focus on building partnerships within Cumberland County and support the improvement and development of sporting facilities throughout Cumberland County. DistiNCtly Fayetteville is the tourism marketing arm of Fayetteville/Cumberland County.
“The community is critical to our mission to make Cumberland County a nationally known destination. Through the commission, we are bringing key players to the table to ensure we’re all working collectively to promote what makes our region distinct,” Heath said.
