The Detroit Sports Commission has promoted Marty Dobek to deputy director and Alma Davila-Toro to senior event manager.
“I’m proud and excited to announce these very deserving promotions for Marty and Alma,” said Dave Beachnau, executive director of the DSC. “Both have been vital to the success metro Detroit has enjoyed recently bidding on and hosting marquee events. They bring great experience in all facets of the sports tourism industry, and we look forward to their continued contributions to the sports commission and the region.”
Dobek has been with the sports commission since 2011 and has served as marketing and communications manager since 2017. In his new role, he will oversee the day-to-day sales, marketing, communications and event functions.
During his time as marketing and communications manager, Dobek helped increase Detroit’s profile nationally and internationally, securing the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament First and Second Round games, the 2018 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championship, the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Regional
Davila-Toro has been the sports commission’s sports event manager since 2018. In her new role she will lend coordination, operation and oversight of all DSC-hosted and managed events. She is currently serving as co-tournament director for the 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Little Caesars Arena and the 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship at TPC Michigan. She also recently provided event management services and consultation to organizers hosting events in metro Detroit, overseeing event operations for the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, 2021 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship and 2021 USA Weightlifting Nationals Week.
