A new multisport complex in Corpus Christi, Texas, broke ground this week led by city officials and those from Corpus Christi FC, the USL League 2 franchise in town.
The Corpus Christi FC complex is located on 46 acres of land and is expected to open in 2024. It will feature outdoor playing surfaces for soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, flag football and more. The centerpiece is a 5,000-seat stadium and the venue will also have a standard Go Kart racing track.
“Now emerging from a previously underutilized area of our city, our complex signifies a landmark development that will leave a lasting imprint on our community,” said Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo, founder and president of Corpus Christi FC and Next Sports Company. “With this groundbreaking, we celebrate a pivotal milestone, enabling the realization of a new multi sports venue. This venture positions us to attract regional and national tournaments, establish a professional soccer team and provide a world-class training facility for our athletes.”
An investment group led by Next Sports Company and Okonkwo is developing the facility, which is expected to cost $28.3 million when all phases are completed. The project also received a grant under a five-year incentive agreement with the city of Corpus Christi.
