Chicago, Arlington to Host Volleyball World 2025 Events
Two U.S. cities are part of expanded tournament
Posted On: December 10, 2024 By :Arlington, Texas, and Chicago will host competition as part of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League season, which will feature an expanded and refreshed edition of the tournament.
Chicago will host men’s action from June 25–29 with Poland, Italy, Brazil, Canada and China joining the host United States. Arlington will host women’s action from July 9–13 with China, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Germany and Thailand competing with the hosts; Arlington previously hosted women’s competition as part of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League schedule.
The 2025 tournament ushers in a new era for with major changes including an expansion from 16 to 18 teams per gender, including new men’s teams in China and Ukraine and new women’s teams from the Czech Republic and Belgium. The revamped preliminary phase will include 216 matches played over three weeks. Each team will compete in 12 matches with rotating pools across three host cities weekly.
To enhance player recovery, the 2025 calendar includes a new rest week from June 20 to July 6, following the second week of the men’s competition.
The women’s competition will begin from June 4–8 in Ottawa, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing. The men’s tournament starts June 11–15 in Quebec City, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing. From June 18–22, the women’s tournament will move to Istanbul, Hong Kong and Belgrade. The men’s competition will follow from June 25–29 in Burgas, Bulgaria and Belgrade along with Chicago.
The women’s teams will wrap up the preliminary stage from July 9–13 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, and Kanto, Japan and Arlington. The men’s teams will compete in their final preliminary matches from July 16–20 in Gdansk, Poland; Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Kanto (which will start one day earlier than the other sites).
The Finals will take place from July 23–27 for the women and July 30 to August 3 for the men. Host cities for both finals will be announced later.
