“We will experience an unforgettable Copa America, enjoying the best football in the world in 14 magnificent stadiums,” said Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL and FIFA Vice President. “The passion of football will run through this great country from east to west and from north to south, bringing excitement and fun to hundreds of thousands of fans at the venues and millions of spectators around the world.”
Eleven of the venues are best-known as NFL stadiums, ranging in size from 63,400-seat State Farm Stadium to 82,500-seat MetLife Stadium. The other three — 25,500-seat Exploria Stadium, 20,700-seat Q2 Stadium and 18,500-seat Children’s Mercy Park — are Major League Soccer facilities. Two group-round games will be played at every site except for Charlotte — which has the pair of knockout matches — and the two Kansas City stadiums, which have one group game each.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta has a capacity of 71,000 and has hosted Super Bowl LIII, the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018 and numerous international soccer matches.
“Hosting the Opening Match of this prestigious tournament is an incredible achievement by everyone involved and our region’s soccer profile has once again been elevated to the highest level with this announcement,” said Dan Corso, president of the Atlanta Sports Council. “We would like to thank our partners at Arthur M. Blank Sports + Entertainment, the City of Atlanta and Mercedes-Benz Stadium for their continued partnership and we look forward to working with them, as well as CONMEBOL and Concacaf to create a remarkable experience for all involved.”
Hard Rock Stadium is home to the Miami Dolphins, Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, Miami Open tennis tournament and University of Miami and Orange Bowl college football games. Both sites will be among those used at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as well.
“We are proud to host the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024 final at Hard Rock Stadium,” said Tom Garfinkel, vice chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium. “As a global entertainment destination, we strive to reflect the dynamic and international culture of Miami. This selection is thanks to the collaborative work of multiple stakeholders including Stephen Ross, Concacaf, CONMEBOL and our local and national officials. We are excited to deliver an incredible world class experience for players and fans alike and highlight the passion of football in our community.”
Miami’s James L. Knight Center will host the 2024 Copa América draw on December 7. Sixteen teams, 10 from South America and six from Concacaf, will play starting June 20, 2024, with the final on July 14. Two groups will play in the west and center of the country and two groups in the east and center. The competition will move in an easterly direction, the quarterfinals will be played in the west and center, while the semifinal and final will take place in the east.
Argentina is the defending Copa América and World Cup champion. Ecuador was scheduled to host in 2024 but withdrew due to public security issues with the U.S. stepping in as host. The U.S. hosted the 2016 Copa Centenario with the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as Chile won in penalty kicks against Argentina, which beat the U.S. in the semifinals.
MetLife Stadium, NRG Stadium, Levi’s Stadium and State Farm Stadium are the only returning stadiums from the 10 venues that were used for Copa América Centenario, though games also were held in Orlando (Camping World Stadium) and the Los Angeles area (Pasadena’s Rose Bowl).
