ASM Global Readies $4 Billion Kai Tak Sports Park
The decade-long project in Hong Kong is scheduled for a 2025 opening
Posted On: April 17, 2024 By :The late winter will be a test period for Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong after a nearly decade-long build for the $4 billion sports, recreation and entertainment project.
Kai Tak Sports Park is expected to formally open in 2025 and is one of the sports venues that will deliver events for the 2025 15th National Games of China. The project will include a 50,000-capacity main stadium with a retractable roof and flexible field surface that can host a wide array of events in any weather. It will also have a 10,000-capacity indoor sports arena for basketball, tennis and gymnastics as well as a 5,000-spectator sports ground for hosting school sports days, athletic meets, local football and rugby matches.
ASM Global has been on the ground in Hong Kong working for over five years in the buildup for the venue. The project is designed around Kai Tak Sports Avenue, an indoor and outdoor pedestrian walkway that starts at Station Square and continues through the facility. Throughout the complex will also be a bowling center with 40 lanes suitable for hosting international tournaments and a climbing wall.
“ASM Global develops and builds spectacular venues and extraordinary entertainment districts throughout the world but nothing compares to the scale, scope and state-of-the art innovation of Kai Tak,” said ASM Global President and Chief Executive Officer Ron Bension.
Kai Tak Sports Park Limited and ASM Global have worked on environmentally conscious designs within the project. The focus of the efforts includes integration of photovoltaic panels on all major facilities, extensive green roofscapes and a network of electric charging stations.
