Anaheim and Hartford to Host Women’s Hockey Series
Rivalry Series will begin in December between two best women's teams in the world
Posted On: October 7, 2019 By :The second annual Rivalry Series between the women’s national teams of the United States and Canada will start in December in Hartford, Connecticut, and also make a stop in February in Anaheim, California.
The two sites were announced by USA Hockey, with at least one more site to be announced at a later date. Last year’s Rivalry Series was a three-game series played at two different sites in Canada with the finale in Detroit won by Canada to claim a 2-1 series victory.
This year’s series will open at the XL Center in Hartford on December 14, with the Anaheim game on February 8 at the Honda Center. The Anaheim game will be part of the Anaheim Ducks‘ “We Play Weekend” with multiple initiatives to promote and celebrate girls’ and women’s hockey.
“We are excited to bring a Rivalry Series game to Anaheim,” said Katie Million, director of women’s national team programs for USA Hockey. “It’s an incredible city with a great hockey fanbase and we’re excited to have the opportunity to play in front of them and celebrate the game.”
The U.S. and Canada have battled in the gold-medal game of every IIHF Women’s World Championship and Olympic Winter Games staged, with two exceptions (the 2018 world championship and the 2006 Olympics). The U.S. has won eight of the last nine World Championships and is the reigning Olympic champion.
