The American Junior Golf Association has announced a partnership with Discover Puerto Rico, which will host the Discover Puerto Rico Junior Championship from January 11–14, 2024 at the Grande Reserve Golf Club, which annually hosts the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
“We are thrilled to partner with Discover Puerto Rico for the Discover Puerto Rico Junior Championship,” said AJGA Director of Business Development Patrick Cansfield. “This collaboration not only provides our young golfers with an exceptional platform to showcase their skills but also introduces them to the beauty and warmth of Puerto Rico.”
Discover Puerto Rico’s involvement as the title sponsor highlights its commitment to promoting the island as a premier golf destination and supporting the development of junior golfers. It is expected to draw top junior golfers from across the United States and around the world.
“We’re proud to partner with the American Junior Golf Association to host the Discover Puerto Rico Junior Championship starting in 2024,” said Brad Dean, chief executive officer of Discover Puerto Rico. “Our island features world class golf courses and we cannot wait to host these young athletes as they compete, and grow, into the future of the sport.”
The AJGA has organized past tournaments on the island. From 2011 through 2016, many recognizable names played in some of the early tournaments in Puerto Rico, including Sam Burns (2012), Cameron Champ (2013), Wyndham Clark (2012) and Emiliano Grillo (2011).
“We are thrilled to have the AJGA back in Puerto Rico,” said Puerto Rico Golf Association President Sidney Wolf. “The AJGA has been such a great partner for us over the years and the work they do with young people is extraordinary. Tournaments like this give us the opportunity to show off Puerto Rican golf and also expose our juniors to top talent from around the world.”
