All MLB Clubs Agree to Extend Netting
Posted On: February 1, 2018 By :Major League Baseball has announced that all 30 of its team stadiums will have protective netting that extends at least to the far ends of both dugouts by Opening Day of the 2018 season. Several teams had already made the move as a safety measure for fans in recent years but several more had yet to make the move. In 2015, the commissioner’s office had recommended that teams begin installing longer netting to prevent fan injuries from foul balls or flying bats.
“Providing baseball fans with a variety of seating options when they come to the ballpark, including seats behind protective netting, is important,” said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. “Major League Clubs are constantly evaluating the coverage and design of their ballpark netting and I am pleased that they are providing fans an increased inventory of protected seats.”
