2029 World University Games Dates Announced
North Carolina will host the games starting July 11
Posted On: April 1, 2024 By :The 2029 FISU World University Games in North Carolina will be from July 11 through July 22, the local organizing committee and International University Sports Federation have announced.
The date decision was during the FISU executive committee meeting on March 1 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
“We are grateful to the FISU leadership for confirmation of these dates for the Games,” said Hill Carrow, chairman and chief executive officer for the 2029 World University Games. “These were the dates recommended and requested by our university hosts and other venues involved in our bid as being the best dates for those host institutions and facilities to be able to accommodate the Games. Now that the dates have been set, we can add more specificity to our project timelines as we continue to plan for the big event.”
North Carolina’s bid to host the FISU World University Games was centered in a region stretching from Raleigh to Greensboro, encompassing the Triangle and Triad areas of the state. The FISU World University Games are the largest event for student athletes with more than 7,000 athletes competing in 18 sports over a 12-day period. The FISU World University Summer Games have only been held once previously in the United States, in 1993 in Buffalo, New York. The 2023 Winter Games were held in Lake Placid, New York.
At that same Executive Committee meeting, the North Carolina Organizing Committee was asked by FISU to deliver its first Progress Report on preparations for the 2029 Games in North Carolina. While in Lausanne, the local organizing committee visited with both the International Gymnastics Federation and International Volleyball Federation.
