The 2024 MLB London Series between the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies generated nearly $70 million for the city’s economy in June 2024, according to an impact study by the consulting firm Two Circles.
The 2024 MLB London Series resulted in a boost of $80 million total to the UK’s economy as a whole for the two games between the Mets and Phillies, up from $73 million in 2023 when the Chicago Cubs played the St. Louis Cardinals. The two games in 2024 at London Stadium had 108,956 tickets sold with an estimated 21 percent coming from the United States.
“The London Series continues to be a landmark event for baseball outside of the US, showcasing the passion for the sport on a truly global stage,” said Graham Gilmore, chief executive of London Stadium. “The weekend not only reinforced London’s status as a world-class destination for international events but also delivered significant economic benefits, boosting tourism, hospitality, and local businesses.”
Visitors from the United States contributed 72 percent of the direct economic impact last summer. The 2024 MLB London Series resulted in $5.6 million in direct consumer spend in England outside London and $4 million in Scotland, in addition to more than a half million in Wales and $415,000 in Northern Ireland.
Previous editions of the MLB London Series saw $45 million generated for London’s economy in 2019 and $65 million in 2023. The MLB London Series is set to return to the city in 2026. The survey was completed by more than 5,100 fans over the two event days.
“London is the sporting capital of the world and it was fantastic to have the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies play a series this summer, delighting fans and providing a significant boost to the capital’s economy,” said London Mayor Sadiq Khan. “Londoners and visitors can look forward to more live MLB action in the capital in 2026 as we continue to build a better and more prosperous city for everyone.”
